Episode 344: Holiday Wishes

Episode 344 of the CMP, a Creativity Matters Podcast

In this episode of the CMP, final thoughts for the year and a rolling back to December 2018 for some end-of-year reflection and a few quirky end-of-year stories that I wanted to share and didn’t get the chance to tell. I’ve been sick (and still am), and as the days have lengthened between recordings, things have gotten murky and heavy. But ultimately, I wanted to sit in December light (artificial and whimsical as it is) and talk about quiet things, about ugly sweaters and young adults in zany polyester patterned head-to-toe suits, and rainbows that show up in the absence of rain. This show meanders in and around some year-end thinking, some holiday wishes, some forward looking, and some creative journey assessment. I didn’t get to do “all” the shows I wanted in December, not by a long shot. I wanted to share this moment of light. I wanted to record in the quiet and warm stolen moments of December in my office, fairy lights on. I wanted to talk about snow globes. I wanted to talk about words for the year and about goals and tracking and planning.

With company over the holidays (also sick), I was sleeping on the couch, and one morning up before everyone else, I had time to sit and look at the room, and the gratitude projects from November 2016 and November 2018 really caught my attention for their personal meaning. That moment added to a muddle of fluish thinking I’d been doing about my own drawing projects and how off track I’ve gotten. How to find the right track wasn’t clear then and isn’t clear yet. (I’m trying.) If I’d recorded this show when planned, the tenor would have been different. I hadn’t done some of the thinking I’ve done by now. So listen for what it is and for what it inspires within you about your own thinking about your art, what you love, your journey, what road you are on, and how, how, how, how you find other people you can trust to walk with you.

I am weeks late with this show. You have wound down your year, cleared out the cobwebs, made a goal or two (maybe) for the new year, and started 2019. I hope that your end of year processes were peaceful, happy, healthy, and that there was just a bit of quiet, of softness, of whimsy, warmth, magic, and sparkle. I wish that for all of you.
