" . . . in the morning as the room gradually lightens" - I silently said a big YES to that phrase, Amy, as I, too, find it one of the best times to reflect and gather thoughts and memories, especially this time of year. I also like your idea to sketch the year as a review of sorts. I'm going to try that - love that idea. It's so neat to see your 52 Weeks of List Comics, measurable fruit of your labor. This sentence, too, is so beautiful, "I hope you close the year with soft thoughts about what the year held and how you moved within it and through it." I wish the same peace for you too, Amy.
Thank you, Mary. I am glad to know we share a fondness for the clarity and softness of morning light. And I love knowing that you might consider the sketchnote of your creative year. It can be such a good project for gathering everything in one place. I hope you have a peaceful few days to the year's end and then enter the new year with optimism.
One of my goals this year is to follow through with learning more. I signed up for an online class on Jan 10 with Danny Gregory and I am really looking forward to it! I feel like I need to nurture my inner artist a little.
That's great, Laura. Danny has always been a beacon of inspiration -- his Creative License remains my most recommended book for people. I think we often seek new people as sources of inspiration, and I hope you really enjoy his class as you kickstart your year. Nurturing your inner artist "more" is certainly a good plan for the coming year!
I feel like I'm ending the year a little crumbly- so I'm reminding myself to have soft thoughts ♥️♥️♥️ I'm very thankful for you and the difference you made in my life this year 💕
Melissa - I hope all of you made it through the holidays together. Crumbly is a good word for what I imagine you are experiencing, and I am sending you peaceful thoughts as the year ends and the new one picks up. I'm sorry we won't see you on NYE for drawing, but I am glad you have been part of our small group this year.
So much of what shows up in public places like these is performative. I really appreciate that this project was (is) for you, Amy. Do you, by chance, recall the photo collage I put together after a year of taking screenshots of my "ancestor time" moments? 1:11, 2:22, 10:10, etc.? Somehow, taking in your weeks of list comics reminds me of that. They become a whole other work of art viewed as a collection. Pretty marvelous.
I have a faint idea of you making mac and cheese over the holidays last year, but I have no idea if that's rooted in anything other than my imagination and love of mac and cheese. I'm glad you enjoyed what you made this year. Wishing you ease as you move into 2026, and glad to be on the journey with you.
I do recall your collage, Elizabeth, and I am a big fan of "views" that are accumulated and holistic. So often the impact is in the whole, moreso than a single moment, and yet both exist and do their part. You have a good memory. (Mac and cheese was Thanksgiving - right before the stove gave up the fight.) I hope you all had a nice holiday week and that you have some downtime as we move to the end of the year - time to think about the fresh start the year offers. I'm sure, for you, it will be one full of hope, and that's a wonderful way to enter.
I love that you started something and carried it through for two entire years. The "diary list comics" was fun to look through. What talent you have! Thank you for sharing it with us.
