Pivotal points in a creative life, a birthday for the podcast, rainbow hair, and more. Plus a sketchnote of Episode 487 of the Creativity Matters Podcast.
Somewhere, with a cousin, there is a recording of my grandmother and one of her daughters telling the story of her life. She didn’t want to write, didn’t want to be videotaped, but she would have a conversation. Perhaps you can record the story that way?
Seventeen years! I’m selfishly so grateful for YOUR creative practices because they have inspired some of my own. And I read your weekly blog here & often marvel at the parallels in our lives. I relate to the folk art “mom craft” era especially. Thanks for continuing to show up here. My Sunday morning coffee is better because I read your words with it.
Thank you - this means a lot to me. ❤️ I always am surprised to realize how many of us had similar experiences. I love that we all came through with beautiful and strong creative habits, too!
I have so much to say about this post that I don’t even know where to start! It made me think about what counts as a hobby as opposed to a way of life or vocation.
I related so much to your life. I am remembering my own path from art school, to now, including derailments from a teaching job, lack of access to a darkroom, parenting, isolation. I bought a negative scanner so that I can look back through my piles and piles of negatives from undergrad and grad school.
I have a lot of questions about digital journaling, and a lot of it focuses on what you mentioned about losing digital content over the years. I have lost a lot of things from switching computers, digital storage changing dramatically, etc...but I wouldn’t want to lose my journal pages.
Thank you for reading and commenting and drawing today with me 😊 - I totally hear you on the fear of loss. That we post files in places like Instagram helps give us a vault, in some ways, but any service could go away, just as any backup can fail. But hard copies can also be damaged or destroyed. I think diversifying your copies is the best approach.... or accepting the value of doing them and just realizing they might get lost along the way. It’s true with so much.
17 years! What an incredible journey you've had, both in life and with the podcast. I'm grateful for the path you took and the choices you made that have led you to where you are, because you are wonderful. Thanks for sharing with us every week. ❤️💕
Congratulations Amy! Great to read about your creative endeavours over the years and thank you for all the effort you put in and continue putting in. It is inspiring.

Thank you for sharing this suggestion ❤️
Congrats Amy! It’s a big accomplishment worthy of a retrospective!
Thanks so much! Sometimes we have to stand up and celebrate for ourselves!
