The vulnerability idea resonates with me Amy. It was a theme in the early part of the year for me, and I lost track of it a bit. The mantra I had at that time, that I think I picked up from one of your podcasts Amy, was the theme of setting out to be a beginner at something, and to “not be afraid to let them see you try.” To learn something new is to grow. If all our growth is in one direction we become a too-tall pine that is prone to topple. To branch in different directions is to be broad and sturdy.
Oh, a daily small comic would be amazing. I like reading the small things more than the big momentous ones. They're more relatable, at least to me and my also not so exciting life. Trish's 'Trish Tales' dailies come to mind. They're one of my favorite daily reads. It's also why Illustrate Your Week is so satisfying. Knowing that I'm going to record these small snippets also makes me notice them and realize their importance. I love reading everyone's pages as well. Finding the symmetry with my own small moments and feeling the kinship. I also understand not wanting to put your whole self out into the wild where you might lose control of it, though. In the end, doing what you love is a great mantra and you should. :-)
The idea of a month of vulnerability resonated with me as well, since that is a challenge for me in almost all aspects of my life. I think maybe I could do it knowing that I might cover bits of it if I was worried about my audience.
I’m glad this is something you thought about, too, Laura. I think it really is a challenge, but it also may be a limiting factor for some of us in terms of making connections or simply feeling seen. (I apologize for the late reply. I thought I had!)
Almost as good as your podcasts except I have to imagine your voice. Finally got on this substack thing and found you. This was a great read and thought provoking as always. I actually screen shot a piece Im going to put in my TN as it resonated with me so much ( the bit about the prism). It is hard to feel safe to share your work sometimes, I know it was when I first shared my drawings even though I had a scrapbooking blog for 10 years and had shared 100's of projects. It makes you vilnerable every time you share something new, even to your family. Vulnerability, while not comfortable, is important for growth I guess. Some of the most interesting work I see is where there are initial sketches or the stages of the work so you can fully appreciate how it comes to be. I find that is empowering because I can see that the perfect masterpiece or completed project started from humble beginings and it makes it more achieveable to begin. P.S I could see in my head the comic strip you could create from your finding lost things story and it was great !!
Wishing you a great week full of possibilities Lisa - (Daffyscrapper on Instagram)
So happy to see you here, Lisa. Thank you! And thank you for your comments — and for the podcast comment. I appreciate your words here on sharing and vulnerability and how it is ongoing…. I agree that sometimes vulnerability can help up connect and relate as well.

I love your pine wisdom!

I appreciate your insight and hearing why the illustrated journal resonates.
