I'm never tired as a reader! I always enjoy your posts and I look forward to them. Your substack has become part of my Sunday morning routine. Also, I'm loving your 100 day project. The comics and affirmations are wonderful individually but they also look so great grouped together in this post!

I had a few ideas to join the project but never got started. A lot is going on right now that has kept me from being able to draw as much or post these past few weeks, but I'll be back very soon and hopefully in a much better place. I can't wait to see what my sketchbook will hold in the days ahead!

Something that made me smile this week: photos of my sweet baby granddaughter. 🥰

We always have to listen to what’s going on, individually. I hope you are finding time for yourself - and maybe time to work in your journal. It will be there whenever that time opens up. I’m happy to hear about the photos of the baby! Definitely smile-worthy!

-A superhero I enjoyed was Underdog. Such a simpler time.

-Lunching, browsing and laughing with two dear friends brought a smile to my face this week.

-I like FaceTiming. Gives me instant access to those delicious grandbabies.

I’m glad you had good friend time! I can see FaceTime takes on a whole new dimension with grandkids. That’s really sweet.

I've really enjoyed your affirmations, Amy. Even though they're meant for you, they're helping me, too! I also just followed Sophie Blackall on IG. Such lovely illustrations! The Hello Lighthouse story brings to mind The Giving Tree, though not nearly so tragic. I think what it taps into for me is how we humans often don't consider the larger consequences of our needs, or don't acknowledge that in fulfilling our desires, we are having impacts on other aspects of our world. A good reminder!

Superheroes: Meh. I think I'm in "let's be superheroes for each other" mode.

Something that made me smile: You

Letters and texts. Phone calls only in small doses with the right people. 😊

I've been meaning to ask: In some of your posts, you direct folks to the browser version with a text-based link. I'm wondering how you grab that link before you publish. The ones I've tried show up as dead ends when I test them out in Incognito Mode, so I've been afraid to try them in the real post. Does that make any sense?

Thank you, Elizabeth - I appreciate the kind words. Giving Tree was always a favorite from many years ago. That's a nice throwback mention! I don't always pop into comments right away on Sunday, but I saw this and wanted to reply to the technical question.... yes! I do this with the Illustrate Your Week prompts since they are not live yet when I set up this post, and so I also grab the link for "this" post when I know it will be too long. Just go to "settings" (bottom right) of your draft. You'll find the link in the SEO section. The link won't work until your post is actually published. (So it's different than using the "secret" link; but I prefer to use what I know will be the actual url.) Hope that helps.

Thank you!! I feel better being assured it will work once the post is live. :)

I'm a fan of lighthouses too and am especially intrigued by female lightkeepers. I wrote a fictional story of one that was published a while back, and I love reading true stories of them. That book looks dreamy. (Also, thanks for mentioning my Substack!❤️)

Oh wow…. What a coincidence. (I found it. I haven’t read it yet, but I turned it up. Thanks for mentioning it.) Happy to share your work. You already know more of that is coming!

Thanks for tracking it down. It's a story I wrote for an anthology of reimagined adventure tales. Mine was inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym, whose main character briefly lives in Nantucket before heading off to sea for the rest of the book. I wrote it from the point of view of the daughter Pym might have left behind. Anyway, I'm loving your 100 day project and all that it's generating for you!

Sophie Blackall! My girlfriend is a children's book author, and spent some time at Milkwood Farm, Sophie's writers retreat in upstate NY. Sophie is a kind and prolific artist, and is supportive and very generous toward the creators around her. My gf had a wonderful experience. Hello Lighthouse is a beautiful book!

That’s fantastic! What are the odds. I am sure she’s amazing, and it’s always nice to hear that from someone who knows. I can only imagine time at Milkwood Farm is wonderful. thanks for reading.

I find it very useful to be reminded to breathe. I’m usually in a semi-frantic state where I’m holding my breath, or breathing shallowly. When I was a kid, my mom refused to sit next to me when I was reading, because she said I would hold my breath and it made her anxious. I have no idea if I still do it.

I haven’t ever really gone the superhero route. I always love a good strong woman, like old school wonder woman. I think poison ivy is pretty cool, but of course they made her a villain.

Text 100%. I have major talking on the phone anxiety. Email is a pretty close second, and some things are definitely hard to communicate in typing, but it still takes a lot for me to make a phone call.

I support you taking the easy path with your Sunday post, whenever you need/want to. But I don’t tire of reading any of your writing.

P.S. your image from the story book reminded me how much I love cross sections.

What a beautiful book by Sophie Blackall! Her illustrations are enchanting. I love the cut away image of the lighthouse. I’ve always loved illustrations that show you the inside like that… Whether it was a burrow underground, or a home in a tree, or the interior of a house. Really fun! Thank you for sharing it.

Superhero related… the other day I was trying to remember the name of that funny little floating character from He-man, Masters of the Universe. After looking online I recalled it was Orco. I always thought he was pretty super. From that same era, maybe we could also count Commander Mark (Mark Kistler) from The Secret City on PBS as a super hero? 💪✏️
