WoW! This is an amazing article about paint and special paint with marvelous links in order to get information about it from several artists. Thank you for this!

Since I am traveling next week to Germany I will keep my mind open for one of those brands which you have mentioned on the list.

Whenever I wanted to buy proper water color I never could make a decision whether buying 6, 12 or even more. Even though I love mixing I like 36 oder 48 boxes with similar but still different shades. For a home artist a big selection might be nice. For carrying it a smaller selection would be wise. Maybe some halves at the beginning ... just enough to not stretch your own budget. Let’s see what I will find.

Thank you! M

Thank you for reading.... I feel like in my own deep-dive, I've moved in a new direction already and with more clarity. But it was important for me to watch some of these people/videos. If you are thinking about paint, I would look at some of the links and palette roundups mentioned in the more recent "Rabbit Hole" post (https://illustratedlife.substack.com/p/simply-sunday-a-colorful-rabbit-hole).

I appreciate what you said about preferring the larger palettes.... I think that's probably true for many - and as you said, what works at home is different from what might be necessary traveling or urban sketching.

In the Rabbit Hole links, however, I was especially intrigued by looking at the 12-pan sets used by a range of people.... custom sets..... what individual paints does each choose to carry with them.

(Most of the links in this earlier post were to inexpensive sets at Amazon. But if you buy individual tubes and fill your own half pans, it ultimately is more cost-effective. A tube can fill a half pan multiple times. There are lots of well-known brands, including Daniel Smith, Winsor & Newton, and M. Graham, as just a few. (I've been considering Daniel Smith.... with the thought to buy a specific few colors as I move forward.)

I would definitely check the links in the Rabbit Hole post! And have good and safe travels!
